About

What is the Lebanon Mountain trail?

The Lebanon Mountain trail is the first long distance hiking trail in Lebanon and the Arab world (www.lebanontrail.org). It extends 440km. from Qbaiyat in the north to Marjeyoun in the south. It traverses 75 towns and villages at altitudes from 600m to 1900m.  The LMT showcases the natural beauty and cultural wealth of Lebanon’s mountains.

The Thru-Walk

The Lebanon Mountain Trail Association has organized the first complete thru-walk of the LMT.  We will be a core group of 7 hikers. For the most part, we will be staying in guest houses developed in cooperation with the LMTA, but may camp a few times.. Our trek starts on April 1st in Qbaiyat and finishes in Marjeyoun on April 30th.

The Book

As a way to explore my own country and the hidden beauty of its mountain landscape, I am writing a book on the LMT. I hope to share a side of Lebanon which is rarely seen in Lebanon itself, let alone the world. Most of the trails on the LMT are hundreds and thousands of years old and walking down them puts you in touch with a certain history of the country. Norbert Schiller, who has shot Lebanon before, will be working with me to capture all that we see along the way.

About Myself

My first hiking experience was in the Rockies in Wyoming, where my husband used to lead mountaineering trips for the Y.M.C.A. I have been hooked ever since.  Our most recent ‘adventure’ was climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  As a Lebanese who has lived abroad most of my life, I am in a way, discovering Lebanon.  I would like to share the unique hiker’s perspective of the Lebanese mountains, their villages, heritage, food and culture.
