Day 25
We had an exciting ride to the trailhead today, on a pickup truck. The beginning of the hike was up the Azzibe valley. The beautiful stream had many pools of crystal clear water and smooth rock beds.

After hiking in knee deep grass and flowers, we were back in the rugged highlands. We take a much needed morning stop to pace ourselves.

Solitary, wind swept oaks looked striking against the sun bleached rocks. By mid afternoon we reached the ridge that overlooks the Qaroun dam and Bekaa. Padre poses with a few cameras with the valley below. You can see the lake behind in the google maps location at the bottom of the page.

The water level was very high and the patchwork of the fields is particularly vibrant this time of year. Aitanite for the night, last week!
Hi Hana
Greetings from Sydney, Australia. I’m Helen Anderson’s sister. So fascinated by what you are doing. You photos bring back so many memories, almost as good as being there, wish I was! Can’t wait to read your book. Congrats on such a worthwhile endeavour, how wonderful if your trek is the seed for the ‘peace trail’. Best wishes and happy trails! Jill
My mother, sittu, uncles and aunts were born in Aitaneet. I took my wife and my three boys a few years back and the house where they were born still stands. My mother’s name was Sofia Char Kaim and she was a School teacher. To our surprise we met the ex Mayor and he said he was my mother’s student. It was thrilling specially for me to be in the city where my mother was born, my sons brought some flowers and earth from her house without my knowledge and once back home (USA) they asked to go to the cemetery and then spread the earth and placed the flowers on her tomb.
My mother is from aitaneet to, I am in lebanon and i love aitaneet too much. its a peace from the paradise where Our Lady virgine Mary use to stay.
i am verry touched by what your suns done. i am sure that they were inspiered by Our Lady to do so.
